About This Department
The Celebrations Department is the special events and occasions ministry of Shekinah Avenue Church, Ogbojo. It is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of all celebratory moments in the life of the church — from personal milestones such as birthdays and dedications to significant church-wide occasions such as Christmas carol services, anniversaries, and seasonal celebrations. The department exists to ensure that every special moment is marked with intentionality, creativity, and joy.
The department operates from the conviction that celebration is a spiritual discipline. Scripture is filled with moments of communal joy, thanksgiving, and festivity — and the church is called to reflect that culture. By bringing excellence, warmth, and careful planning to every event, the department creates experiences that mark occasions while strengthening community, deepening belonging, and expressing the gladness that characterises the people of God.

The Celebrations Department exists to:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute all special celebrations and events within the church calendar — seasonal, thematic, and milestone occasions.
- Organise birthday celebrations and acknowledgements that make every member feel seen, valued, and celebrated by the church family.
- Coordinate major annual events including Christmas carol services, Easter celebrations, and church anniversaries.
- Manage the decoration and physical presentation of the church environment so every event space reflects the theme and spirit of the celebration.
- Liaise with the Protocol & Ushering, Media, and Music departments to ensure seamless event execution across every area.
- Develop and manage event budgets in collaboration with the Finance Department, working within approved financial parameters.
- Communicate event details, schedules, and participation requirements to the congregation in a timely and organised manner.
- Maintain a calendar of upcoming celebrations to support advance planning across the church.
- Continuously improve the quality, creativity, and impact of celebrations through feedback, team development, and fresh ideas.

The department operates as a single, unified team whose members collectively manage all aspects of the church’s special events across three broad areas of responsibility.
Personal Milestones & Member Celebrations
The acknowledgement and celebration of personal occasions within the church family. Birthdays are a primary focus — recognised in a manner consistent with the church's culture of love and community through shout-outs during services, organised gatherings, and coordinated gifting. The area also covers dedications, naming ceremonies, and other personal milestones, each handled with warmth, care, and appropriate ceremony.
Church-Wide Seasonal & Annual Events
The major celebrations on the church's annual calendar. The Christmas carol service is among the most significant events the department coordinates, involving detailed planning around programme flow, decoration, music collaboration, and atmosphere. Easter services, church anniversaries, end-of-year events, and other church-wide gatherings also fall within this area — each planned well in advance and executed to the highest standard.
Event Environment & Presentation
The physical preparation and decoration of the church environment for every special occasion. The department ensures the auditorium and event spaces are dressed in a manner that reflects the theme and spirit of each celebration — sourcing and managing decorations, coordinating setup and teardown, and maintaining a visual standard that communicates excellence and intentionality, always within approved budgets.
How the Department Works
The department functions as one cohesive team, with all members contributing across the full range of responsibilities. Rather than operating in isolated roles, the team collaborates in the planning, preparation, and execution of every event, with tasks assigned based on individual strengths and the requirements of each occasion. A live calendar of upcoming celebrations keeps the team working well ahead of every event so that nothing is left to chance.
Pre-event planning meetings, budget reviews, and post-event debriefs are part of the standard rhythm, and the team liaises regularly with the Protocol & Ushering, Media, and Music ministries to ensure every celebration is a seamlessly integrated experience. Above all, the department approaches its work with a spirit of joy and the conviction that what it does matters.
