Shekinah Avenue Evangelism & Medical Outreach Department

Evangelism & Medical Outreach

Reaching Beyond the Walls

About This Department

The Evangelism & Medical Outreach Department is the missional arm of Shekinah Avenue Church, Ogbojo. It exists to carry the love, grace, and gospel of Jesus Christ beyond the walls of the church and into the surrounding community, serving people at the point of their spiritual and practical needs. The department operates on the conviction that the Great Commission is not a suggestion but a calling — and that a church which does not reach out has ceased to fulfil its most fundamental purpose.

The work is twofold: spiritual and practical. Through weekly soul-winning, the team shares the message of salvation and invites people into a living relationship with Jesus. Through its annual free medical outreach, the department extends the healing ministry of the church to those with limited access to healthcare. Community assistance reinforces this holistic approach, positioning Shekinah Avenue as a place of genuine care and transformative presence in its neighbourhood.

Core Mandate

“As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”Matthew 10:7–8

The Evangelism & Medical Outreach Department exists to:

  • Conduct weekly soul-winning outreaches in the surrounding communities, sharing the gospel and praying with individuals encountered during each initiative.
  • Train and equip church members to share their faith effectively, compassionately, and with confidence in everyday settings.
  • Maintain a consistent and structured outreach calendar that keeps soul-winning regular, organised, and strategically deployed.
  • Organise and execute an annual free medical outreach providing basic health screenings, consultations, and referrals at no cost.
  • Coordinate community assistance programmes such as food support and material aid as directed by church leadership.
  • Follow up with individuals who receive ministry during outreach, connecting them to the church and facilitating their integration.
  • Collaborate with the Akwaaba Department to ensure those brought through outreach are warmly received and supported.
  • Document outreach activities, track decisions for Christ, and report regularly to church leadership on the department's impact.
  • Represent Shekinah Avenue in the community with honour, integrity, and a spirit of genuine service that reflects the character of Christ.

Every initiative, from a weekly walk to the annual medical programme, is planned and executed with care and quality.

Partnership

The department works with other departments, medical volunteers, and community stakeholders to maximise impact.

Follow-Through

Every seed sown is followed up, ensuring no decision for Christ is left without continued care and connection.

Areas of Responsibility

The department operates as a single, unified team that collectively carries out the church’s missional work across three primary areas of responsibility.

Area A

Soul-Winning & Evangelism

The core and most consistent area of the department's work. Every week, members go out into the community — streets, homes, marketplaces, and public spaces — to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Soul-winning is conducted with prayer, intentionality, and sensitivity, meeting people where they are. The team is trained in basic evangelism approaches, decisions for Christ are recorded, and individuals are followed up to encourage their connection to the church.

Area B

Medical Outreach

Once a year, the department coordinates a free medical outreach that brings basic healthcare to the community at no cost — a practical expression of the belief that the love of God extends to physical wellbeing. The programme typically includes free health screenings, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, general consultations, and referrals. Qualified medical volunteers deliver a safe, organised, and impactful event that also opens doors to share the gospel.

Area C

Community Assistance

Beyond evangelism and medical care, the department extends the church's compassionate witness through community assistance — food distribution, support for vulnerable individuals and families, and other practical aid as needs are identified. Each act is carried out in the spirit of Christ's teaching, not as a transaction but as a genuine expression of love, accompanied where appropriate by prayer, encouragement, and an invitation to encounter the God who provides.

How the Department Works

The department functions as one mission-focused team, with all members contributing to the full range of outreach activities. Tasks are assigned based on individual gifts and professional backgrounds: medical professionals lead during the annual medical outreach, while those with strong relational gifts anchor the weekly soul-winning exercises. Departmental prayer, pre-outreach briefings, and post-outreach reviews keep members spiritually prepared and operationally aligned.

The department maintains close working relationships with the Akwaaba Department for visitor follow-up, the Finance Department for outreach budgeting, and church leadership for strategic direction. Every initiative is grounded in prayer and carried out under the authority and blessing of the church’s pastoral leadership.

The Church That Goes

Every soul won, every patient served, every family assisted declares that the kingdom of God has come near. Whether you carry a gospel tract or a stethoscope, there is a place for you on this team.
