Shekinah Avenue Finance Department

Finance Department

Stewardship with Integrity

About This Department

The Finance Department is the financial stewardship ministry of Shekinah Avenue Church, Ogbojo. It is entrusted with the responsible oversight, management, and accountability of all financial resources belonging to the church, ensuring that every fund received is handled with the highest standards of integrity, efficiency, and transparency. The department operates as the custodian of the church’s material resources, recognising that sound financial management is not merely an administrative function but a spiritual responsibility — an act of faithful stewardship before God and the congregation.

From the counting of tithes and offerings during services to the careful disbursement of funds for ministry activities, the department ensures that the financial life of the church is conducted with discipline, clarity, and godly accountability. Its work enables the church to fulfil its vision with confidence, knowing that its resources are managed well and that its financial dealings honour God and reflect well on His house.

Core Mandate

“Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”1 Corinthians 4:2

The Finance Department exists to:

  • Count, verify, and record all funds received in a secure and systematic manner following every service and financial activity.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records covering all income, expenditure, and fund movements of the church.
  • Process and document all approved disbursements, payments, and transactions in accordance with the church's financial policies.
  • Prepare regular financial reports and statements for the review of church leadership and relevant oversight structures.
  • Develop and manage the church's annual budget in collaboration with leadership, aligning resources with ministry priorities.
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls that protect the church's funds and reduce the risk of error or mismanagement.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable financial regulations, tax obligations, and reporting requirements.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to other departments as they plan and execute ministry activities.
  • Operate with the conviction that every resource belongs to God and is held in trust for His purposes.

How the Department Works

The Finance Department operates as a single, unified team. Rather than subdividing its responsibilities across separate units, members work collectively across all areas of financial management, with roles assigned according to individual strengths, availability, and the operational needs of each service. On any given service day, members may be engaged in counting and verifying funds, updating financial records, or processing approved disbursements — all functioning as one coordinated team under shared leadership.

The department operates with clearly defined processes for each area of its mandate. Counting of offerings and tithes is carried out with strict dual-witness protocols to ensure transparency. Records are maintained accurately and consistently. Disbursements are processed only upon proper authorisation and documentation. Each process is owned by the department as a whole, with individual members taking responsibility for specific tasks as assigned by departmental leadership.

Regular departmental meetings, shared financial reviews, and a culture of open accountability ensure that every member is aligned, informed, and committed to the highest standard of financial stewardship on behalf of the church.

Faithful Stewardship

How a church manages its finances is a direct reflection of its values and its trust in God. If you have a heart for diligence and integrity, there is a place for you to serve on this team.
