Prayer Department
Devoted to Steadfast Intercession
About This Department
The Prayer Department is the spiritual backbone of the church, responsible for cultivating a strong, consistent, and effective prayer culture within the ministry. It serves as the engine that sustains the church’s spiritual life through intercession, supplication, and corporate prayer gatherings. The department supports both the in-person congregation and the wider community by fostering an atmosphere where individuals can encounter God, grow in faith, and experience spiritual transformation through prayer.
Our purpose is to uphold the church in prayer through the Grace Message, strengthen members’ spiritual lives, and provide structured platforms for corporate and individual intercession — ensuring that prayer remains central to every activity of the church while nurturing a lifestyle of devotion, discipline, and spiritual sensitivity.
Core Mandate
“But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”Acts 6:4 (KJV)

- Sustain continuous prayer coverage for the church, leadership, and members.
- Organise and coordinate prayer meetings, vigils, and fasting programmes.
- Lead intercessory sessions during services and special events.
- Provide spiritual support through prayer, counselling, and guidance.
- Mobilise and train members in effective prayer and intercession.
- Respond to urgent prayer requests and crisis situations.
- Partner with other departments to cover all church activities spiritually.
- Support the counselling sessions of the church.

How the Units Work Together
The units within the Prayer Department operate as a coordinated spiritual system. The Intercessory Unit provides continuous prayer coverage, while the Events Unit organises corporate gatherings. The Counselling Unit offers personal spiritual support, and the Training Unit equips members for effective prayer. The Digital Unit ensures that prayer extends beyond the church walls, enabling wider participation. Together, they ensure that every aspect of church life is spiritually covered and aligned.
Programmes & Schedule
From weekly gatherings to annual retreats, the Prayer Department provides structured platforms for the entire church family to grow in prayer.
Sunday After-Church Prayer
A sacred moment to seal the Word, lift personal and corporate burdens before God, and align our hearts with the Theme of the Year and His will for the week ahead. A time of unity, renewal, and spiritual reinforcement for the entire church family.
Online Prayer Meeting
A virtual platform to gather in faith, intercede, and grow in spiritual consistency. These sessions strengthen our walk with God, foster community, and keep us spiritually connected throughout the week.
Tuesday School of Ministry
Structured teaching and practical equipping in the Word of God, strengthening doctrinal foundations based on the Gospel of Grace and the Glory Mandate. Through sound teaching, impartation, and discipleship, members are equipped to grow in spiritual maturity, align their prayers with God’s will, and function effectively in leadership, intercession, and ministry.
Rise with Apostle Sydney Quaye
Under the leadership of our Global Lead Pastor, Apostle Sydney Quaye, members of the department subscribe to ‘Rise’ during the first week of selected months — devoting themselves to a focused season of prayer alongside the wider church.
Annual Holiday Prayer Programmes
Specific statutory holidays are strategically designated for hosting special prayer programmes that align with the church’s annual theme — reinvigorating the department’s activities and fostering a unified focus on spiritual growth and empowerment.
Annual Prayer Retreat
A focused half-day programme of prayer, reflection, and fellowship at an agreed venue. Open to all willing and interested members of the church who desire to participate in this enriching spiritual experience.
Our Pastors’ Commitment to Prayer
Our pastors are devoted to a life of prayer, consistently setting themselves apart to seek God’s presence, guidance, and direction for the church. They regularly call themselves into seasons of personal and corporate prayer, demonstrating a deep commitment to spiritual discipline and leadership through intercession. By prioritising prayer in their own lives, they model a culture of dependence on God — ensuring that every decision, teaching, and direction of the ministry is rooted in divine guidance and spiritual sensitivity.
Stand With Us in Prayer
Whether you have a request to lift before the Lord, a desire to join our intercessory team, or simply want to be part of the prayer life of Shekinah Avenue — we would love to hear from you.
