Sunday School Department

Teaching the Unadulterated Word of God

About This Department

The Shekinah Avenue Sunday School Department is a vital teaching and discipleship arm of the church, committed to nurturing believers through sound biblical doctrine. The department is made up of faithful men and women who serve diligently under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Stephen N-Gapson.

Our purpose is to teach the unadulterated Word of God and raise believers who are spiritually grounded, Christ-centered, and equipped for effective Christian living.

Core Mandate

The core mandate of the department is teaching, discipling, and establishing believers in Christ until they grow into “the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” This mandate is fulfilled through the following responsibilities:

A

Biblical Teaching

Providing systematic teaching of God’s Word to all members through weekly Sunday School classes.

B

Spiritual Growth and Maturity

Helping believers develop Christ-like character, spiritual discipline, and a deeper relationship with God.

C

Membership Integration

Helping new members understand the church, its vision, culture, and mandates.

D

Discipleship Development

Training believers to become mature disciples who can also influence and mentor others.

E

Water Baptism Preparation

Organising baptism classes and water baptism sessions to help members understand the significance and blessings of baptism.

Operational Values

The department is guided by a clear set of values that shape how we teach, how we serve members, and how we steward our responsibilities each Sunday and beyond.

Classes Under the Department

The department currently runs three (3) major classes that form a progressive teaching pathway — from foundational truths of the Christian faith, through membership in the body, into full-orbed discipleship.

Foundation Class
Class A

Foundation Class

The aim of this class is to acquaint members with the basic tenets of the Christian faith. At the end of this class, the identity of the believer is well imprinted in the hearts and minds of members who attended. Eight lessons on the nature of the Christian are taught in this class, spanning eight Sundays.

Membership Class
Class B

Membership Class

The Membership Class is a progression from the Foundation Class. The curriculum is designed to provide a clear understanding of “the church of Jesus Christ” and to introduce participants to Shekinah Avenue as a ministry and its five (5) glory mandates. Upon completion of this class, membership forms are given to participants, after which their personal details are uploaded into the church software.

Discipleship Class
Class C

Discipleship Class

The Discipleship Class is also a progression from the Membership Class. It consists of all members who have successfully completed both the Foundation and Membership Classes. This class seeks to teach members the entirety of the counsel of God through the lens of the finished work of Christ, for effective Christian living.
